Professional Bio
My name is Alix Perez and I’m an LMFT licensed in California. I’ve worked in a number of different settings which have given me experience working with clients of many ages, cultures, ethnicities, and mental health diagnoses.
In working with clients, I pull from various evidence-based approaches to tailor my response specifically to the person I work with .My training and expertise has been heavily influenced by trauma informed modalities including Trauma Focused CBT, Seeking Safety, ACT, and DBT. My approach to care is client centered, strengths-based, and humanistic; and it’s grounded in personal and professional experiences that have helped me to relate to, and work with clients from varied social and cultural backgrounds.
As your therapist, I want to create a space wherein you feel safe, un-judged, welcome, and accepted. I do this by bringing humor, honesty, and compassion into each session. Coming to therapy can be daunting and uncomfortable; I see my role as one in which I can empathically guide you towards insights and goals that have otherwise been difficult to achieve on your own. Having worked with client’s where therapy is inaccessible, disapproved of and/or not valued, I’ve found that creating that therapeutic space through my relationship with the client is indispensable.
We’ll work together finding those “Aha” moments; uncovering the aspects of how and why we get here. As we move through the therapeutic process, I encourage my clients to take small steps every day. It’s my guide to help myself and others feel encouraged and to continue moving forward towards any direction or goal. It’s helped me to recognize and highlight the positives, because change is hard! If I can take a small step today, I’m one step closer to self-actualization.
When I’m not with clients, I enjoy engaging in activities that bring me joy – no matter how small. Oftentimes it’s creating healthy meals, exercising, or listening to songs that bring about a feeling of nostalgia. Sometimes it’s taking the time to catch up with friends, organizing my space, trying new restaurants, and on rare occasions being by the beach. I’m excited to learn more about you!
