Professional Bio
Hi, I’m Liesa and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New Jersey. I came into this work through a simple observation, that one safe relationship can change the direction of a person’s life. Not a perfect relationship, just one where someone gets to be heard without being judged or hurried. I have watched it happen for people who had every reason to expect otherwise, and it is still the part of therapy I find most compelling. Everything else we do together rests on it.
I’ve worked in outpatient health systems and in Intensive In-Community behavioral healthcare, which meant meeting kids and families where they actually live instead of waiting for them to come to an office. These days I work across the lifespan with children, teens, adults, and families. I’m trained in EMDR, CBT, and DBT, and mindfulness runs through most of what I do. As a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Professional I have particular experience with pregnancy, postpartum, and the identity shifts that come with becoming a parent, and as a Disaster Response Crisis Counselor I’ve sat with people in the immediate aftermath of events that upended their lives.
The people I most enjoy working with are the ones in the middle of a major life transition or carrying stress that comes from outside of them, the kind that has to do with systems and circumstances rather than anything they did wrong. Those seasons can leave a person feeling like they’re failing when really they’re adjusting to something genuinely hard. What I try to build first is a place where you can set all of that down without bracing for judgment, and where your culture and context are part of the picture rather than something you have to explain away.
This work has taught me that underneath the patterns and the defenses, what nearly everyone wants is to be seen and understood in full. I believe therapy is a partnership where you uncover strengths you already have, process what you’re carrying at a pace that feels safe, and walk away with tools you can actually use. Healing through empathy, growing through solutions, is how I think about it. What I can promise you is a space where your voice is heard, your experience is validated, and nothing moves faster than you want it to.
When I’m not with clients, I’m usually on my yoga mat, doing volunteer work in my community, taking a class or reading something new because I’ve never stopped enjoying being a student, or spending time with my family!
