Professional Bio

Hi there! I’m Sarah Garcia, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California. Most of us carry around a running commentary that’s harder on us than we’d ever be on anyone else. A lot of what happens in our work together is introducing a different voice into that, one that’s actually compassionate. The moments I love most are when a client stops feeling alone in what they’re carrying and lets some of the shame go. Sometimes that arrives as a big shift and sometimes it’s a small “ah-ha” in the middle of an ordinary session.

I started out working in a substance use disorder program, treating polysubstance use in both individual and group therapy. From there I moved to a healthcare center where I saw people through depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief. I draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy, and which of those shows up depends entirely on what you need.

I especially like working with people in transitional periods. Transitions tend to feel unsteady while you’re in them, but they’re also where a lot of growth becomes possible. My own experience in therapy over the years is part of why I do this. The kindness my therapists showed me is something I’m glad to be able to pass on. What this work has taught me is that for all the ways we’re different, we’re also very much the same. My own motto is simple enough: I’m a human and I’m trying my best. I promise to listen without judgment and to hold space for whatever thoughts and feelings you bring in.

When I’m not with clients, I’m usually with friends and family, listening to music, or on a yoga mat.
