Professional Bio

Hi, I’m Katherine Murphy (she/her), a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a passion for helping people heal, grow, and build lives that feel more meaningful and fulfilling. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in community mental health, addiction treatment, corrections, behavioral consulting, and private practice. Those experiences have given me the opportunity to support people through both immediate crises and long-standing challenges, while reinforcing my belief that lasting change is possible when therapy combines compassion with practical action.

My approach is structured, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based care. I primarily draw from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, and existential therapy to help clients better understand themselves while developing concrete skills for managing emotions, tolerating distress, improving relationships, and creating lasting behavioral change. Together, we’ll establish clear goals, track progress along the way, and identify opportunities to practice new skills between sessions so the work we do in therapy becomes part of everyday life.

In addition to working with clients on issues like anxiety, depression, and other emotional or behavioral challenges, I also work with adults navigating addiction and recovery, co-occurring mental health conditions, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), PTSD and complex trauma, Bipolar Disorder, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). I’m also passionate about supporting men’s mental health, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people exploring questions of identity, culture, and belonging, including those who have experienced feeling misunderstood or “othered.” My goal is to provide an affirming, socially conscious, and emotionally safe space where every client feels respected, valued, and empowered throughout their healing journey.

I believe therapy is most effective when it’s an active partnership. If you’re ready to engage in the process, practice new skills, and challenge old patterns, I’ll meet you with honesty, encouragement, and unwavering support. Outside of my clinical work, I enjoy teaching, traveling, spending time with my adult children, attending performing arts events, reading, practicing Eastern spirituality, volunteering, and engaging in advocacy work. I look forward to getting to know you and supporting you as you create meaningful, lasting change.

I look forward to meeting you!
