Professional Bio
Hi, I’m Katherine Murphy (she/her), a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a passion for helping people grow, heal, and create meaningful change in their lives. My work has taken me through a range of settings, from community mental health and addiction treatment to corrections, behavioral consulting, and private practice. These experiences have shaped a flexible, grounded approach and given me the opportunity to support people through everything from crisis moments to long-term patterns that feel hard to shift.
In therapy, I focus on balancing practical tools with deeper understanding. I often draw from DBT and trauma-informed approaches to help clients build skills like emotional regulation and distress tolerance, while also making space for exploring identity, meaning, and purpose. My style tends to be collaborative and structured, but still warm and responsive. I may encourage reflection or practice between sessions, not as pressure, but as a way to help the work feel more useful and connected to everyday life.
Much of my work centers around people navigating complex mental health experiences, including trauma, addiction, and patterns that can feel overwhelming or persistent. I also spend a lot of time working with questions of identity and belonging, especially with clients who have felt misunderstood, marginalized, or “othered” in some way. That includes work with LGBTQIA+ clients, men’s mental health, and people exploring cultural or personal identity. My goal is always to create a space that feels genuinely safe, affirming, and respectful of each person’s full experience.
I believe that people are capable of change, even when it feels difficult or slow. Therapy works best when there is honesty, curiosity, and a willingness to engage with the process, and I try to meet that effort with clarity, care, and a steady sense of direction. Outside of my clinical work, I enjoy teaching, traveling, spending time with my adult children, attending performing arts events, reading, practicing Eastern spirituality, volunteering, and engaging in advocacy work. I can’t wait to learn more about you.
I look forward to meeting you!
