Professional Bio

Hi! My name is Stephaney and I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with almost a decade of experience working in mental health. My specific expertise involves treating adults and adolescents for various mental health challenges and co-occurring diagnoses including but not limited to PTSD, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and behavioral issues. In doing so I use the evidence-based modalities of cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, strength-based approaches, solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, Christian counseling, client-centered, and existential therapy.

I was inspired to become a therapist by my unique experience coming to the United States as an adolescent. Migrating to the United States of America at the age of 13, my experience in middle school was very challenging. Culture shock became my reality and one that would eventually lead me to “Severe anxiety.” Even with a very strong family support system, I felt alone and trapped by my own inner fears and self-defeating thoughts. Constant worry and fear of being bullied by my peers became my everyday experience. Through all these obstacles, being able to see the needs of others from afar was natural for me, and I would desire to share a kind word or give a listening ear. Observing in silence became my hobby and a daily routine. Eventually, I was able to process my feelings and experiences with my faith, supportive family, and a few good friends. To this extent, I have come to recognize the benefits of a strong support system and the need for social and relational connection.

As a mental health counselor, I’m privileged to be a part of that support system for many people. I’m someone who can listen without judgment, move at my client’s pace, see the world from their lens, and help them explore, identify and process their problem/s with dignity and respect. I work with the client to connect the dots between their thoughts, emotions, and actions, all while providing sound strategies to promote healthier thought processes. While the challenges and roadblocks we face can feel insurmountable, they can be great opportunities to reframe negative perspectives, take a look at life through a new lens, and identify the tools to tackle our challenges in positive, healthy ways.

I believe that every human being deserves a chance to be heard and understood, and therapy has taught me that as human beings, we are more alike than different. We all face challenges of some sort- many of which we can identify with each other if we take the time to listen empathetically. So as your therapist, I’m excited to be a listening ear for you and help guide you toward your goals.

“Let all that you do be done in love.”
